This brochure was prepared by Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo as part of the Piano Operativo Locale Docup Ob. 2 2000/2006. The brochure describes the experiences over the area as a whole of the Pisa-Livorno Wide Area. For the first time in this edition has a detailed section on Livorno, which highlights its advantages: its central location in Tuscany, its transportation links, a high level of integration between economic development and exploitation of cultural and environmental resources and last but not least, its ability to attract investment.
The economy, which is based on a range of sectors, particularly lends itself to a wide variety of investments. This is also thanks to its infrastructure and regional and international connections which are described in detail.
There four driving forces which are the central to the areas development; the manufacturing and tertiary industries in which the production sectors of Livorno are specialised, shipping and freight companies which have optimised the management of the transportation of goods, the tourist industry which encompasses all the province’s economy and is an area with a high growth potential, the tertiary sector and social economy which is at the centre of policies governing social responsibility.
In line with the Lisbon strategies the knowledge economy is one of the province’s basic tenets and counts on its proximity to the three Universities of Pisa, Siena and Florence some of which are already involved in the Province in various guises: training and education at the Naval Academy, Scientific and Technological Poles in Livorno and Cecina, the Bioincubator of Sviluppo Italia Toscana in Campiglia.
Synergy has been created with institutions and research centres of the CNR (National Centre for Research), whilst vocational training comprises a whole range of opportunities for lifelong learning.
The attractions for the tourist industry include those of an environmental nature with Natural and archaeological parks and reserves, wineries with products of international renown and of course a rich gamut of art works and archaeological sites of civilisations from various ages. In addition, there is the orbit of attraction to Tuscany’s greatest artistic cities: Pisa, Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena and Florence.
The brochure includes three detailed descriptions of the logistics, manufacturing and tertiary industries as well as tourism. A reference chart includes bodies that are responsible for area marketing with contact details.
